Chrome extension documentation

Since the Chrome extension is still in beta and not yet in the Chrome Web Store, you need to manually download and install it as described below.

General

The Password.link Chrome extension allows you to quickly and securely create encrypted, one-time secret links directly from your browser. Simply select the text you want to share, right-click, and generate a secure Password.link URL that is copied to your clipboard.

The Secret is encrypted in the browser, just like when you use the actual Password.link service.

Installation

  1. Download the extension here: https://passwordlink-static.com/files/passwordlink-chrome-v1.0.zip
  2. Extract the contents to a folder on your computer.
  3. Open chrome://extensions/ in Chrome.
  4. Enable Developer Mode (top-right corner).
  5. Click Load unpacked and select the extracted folder.

Usage

1. Set up your API key

Before creating secret links, you need to enter your Password.link API key. Depending on your Chrome version and settings, the extension settings can be found in one of two locations:

Option 1: From the Chrome Extensions Menu

  1. Click the puzzle piece icon in the Chrome toolbar.
  2. Find Password.link in the list.
  3. Click the three-dot menu next to it and select Options.
  4. Enter your API key and click Save.

Option 2: From the Extension Icon (If Pinned)

  1. Click the Password.link extension icon directly in the toolbar (if pinned).
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Enter your API key and click Save.

2. Creating a Secret Link

  1. Select the text you want to send using a one-time link.
  2. Right-click and choose Create Secret Link.
  3. The encrypted link is copied to your clipboard and stored in the history.

3. Accessing Recent Links

  1. Click the extension icon.
  2. View your Last 10 Created Links.
